In the Masters Sean Craig was first with Ross O'Leary in 3rd. These overall results are very strong across the board. Well done all!

Laser Leinster Championships Wexford SC
Saturday 29th
F3-4 sunny and warm - champagne sailing for the three fleets competing at the Laser Leinster Champs and Ladies Laser National championships. In the laser Standard fleet the George waste represented by Matty o'Dowd, Sean Craig. Ross O'Lear and Conor Byrne. Saturdays racing left it delicately balanced with Matty kn equal points with Chris Penney if east Antrim BC. Conor Byrne was in the frame a couple of points back and needing to discard a 6th place to shake the leaders. Meanwhile that redoubtable Master, Sean Craig pulled some great results in the shifty stuff that he so loves while Ross was snapping at his heels.
In the Radials we were represented by Mark Bolger, Luke Murphy, Nathaniel Gillett and Patrick Cahill. Mark pulled out the best performance with a fifth in the second race. The wind continued to build all afternoon to finish in 15-18 kts.
In the Laser 4.7 fleet the charge was led by Conor O'Beirne followed by Blaithnaid O'Connell who was competitive in all three races, having stepped into the 4.7 for the first time only three days before. The day ended with Conor trailing Cliodhna O'Regan of KYC by two points....all to play for.
The evening BBQ was notable for the numbers of heads drooping with fatigue.....a lot of tired sailors hit the hay early after a very physical day.
Sunday 30th
Started bright and .....windy. A high blue sky with a warm breeze greeted all out of the west. Early launching got race 1 under way. Luke was obviously working hard as he pulled the toe-straps straight out of the deck. Some quick repairs back ashore saw him join the fray for the planned second race.
Meanwhile out on the course, Matty locked horns with Chris Penney again both of them breaking free of the fleet and one behind Oisin McClelland in their own private battle. Tired legs saw Chris capsize at the last gybe mark to let Matty through for second. However bizarrely while they both ended on equal points, the count back saw Matty move second overall for the championships. Sean worked his way into the winners spot in the Masters with Ross coming second. Not bad for two old laads!
In the Radials, a dominant Ryan Glynn of Ballyhome made it four straight wins. Nathaniel, being in the heavyweight division clocked up his best result in the breeze. Mark and Patrick kept if steady to come 14th and 17th respectively. Luke having bust a gut to make it back out for the second race....well, see below for the rest.
Conor O'Beirne has a big of a thing for the breeze and made the most of it. Having to come back for a premature start he got stuck in and led around all marks to finish first by a distance and take the race first overall.
So in summary the RStGYC came 2nd Laser Standard rig, 1st and 2nd in the Masters and 1st in the 4.7 rig. Not a bad result and with three of our Radial sailors away at the Europeans in Croatia who knows how much more could have been achieved. Not a bad weekend for the club.
And finally to Luke... who sailed well all weekend, was towed in following his breakage on Sunday, repaired at top speed and then raced out the two miles for the start of the second race only to have all racing cancelled for the rest of the day. Sometimes you just have a bad day at the office - no matter what you do...
